Dwarf Sphs/first-galaxies Connection
نویسنده
چکیده
I analyze the properties of the first galaxies in cosmological simulations with radiative feedback. Preliminary results indicate similarities with the observed properties of the bulk of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) in the Local Group and Andromeda. I briefly discuss observational tests that could help in understanding the impact of a population of small primordial objects on the cosmic evolution.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملChemical Signatures of the First Galaxies: Criteria for One-shot Enrichment
We utilize metal-poor stars in the local, ultra-faint dwarf galaxies (UFDs; Ltot ≤ 10 L⊙) to empirically constrain the formation process of the first galaxies. Since UFDs have much simpler star formation histories than the halo of the Milky Way, their stellar populations should preserve the fossil record of the first supernova (SN) explosions in their long-lived, low-mass stars. Guided by recen...
متن کاملThe Agn / Normal Galaxy Connection : Summary
The connection between normal and active galaxies is reviewed, by summarizing our progress on answering nine key questions. (1) Do all galaxies contain massive dark objects (MDOs)? (2) Are these MDOs actually supermassive black holes? (3) Why are the dark objects so dark? (4) Do all galaxies contain an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN)? (5) Are the “dwarf AGN ” really AGN? (6) Does AGN activity cor...

متن کاملEvolution of dwarf early - type galaxies I . Spatially resolved stellar populations and internal
Understanding the origin and evolution of dwarf early-type galaxies remains an important open issue in modern astrophysics. Internal kinematics of a galaxy contains signatures of violent phenomena which may have occurred, e.g. mergers or tidal interactions, while stellar population keeps a fossil record of the star formation history, therefore studying connection between them becomes crucial fo...
